Axiomer® RNA editing technology harnesses ADAR (Adenosine Deaminase Acting on RNA), which is machinery present in all human cells to repair G-to-A mutations, modulate protein, and enable protective mutation functions. Axiomer could potentially yield a new class of innovative medicines and treat currently untreatable diseases.

ProQR is aiming to capture the vast opportunity that RNA editing and endogenous ADAR recruitment offers. With the strategic imperative to prioritize the Axiomer platform and enhance the internal development pipeline for Axiomer, we are looking for the Head of Discovery Strategy & New Product Planning (full-time) to join us at our office in Leiden (NL).


Key Responsibilities

Discovery / Target hunting:

  • Shapes and leads the target discovery effort across several therapeutic areas to successfully bring programs from target identification and validation through lead optimization
  • Derives targets from a thorough assessment starting with the biology and a deep understanding of genetics

Growth Strategy:

  • Is responsible for defining the portfolio growth strategy for ProQR and for obtaining critical input and alignment from key senior stakeholders across various functions
  • Leads the identification and prioritization of disease areas for the in-house R&D pipeline and partnerships
  • Is responsible for providing an early and objective view of the unmet need, market potential, and competitive landscape associated with potential target diseases

New Product Planning:

  • Leads new product planning, positioning, and pre-launch investments in pipeline products, working closely with R&D program teams to drive outcome-driven, value creating activities early in the drug development process
  • Is responsible for designing and implementing a new product planning process
  • Interface with R&D leadership to crisply communicate status updates on target discovery and build a robust pipeline of internal and partnered programs.

Market and Competitive Intelligence:

  • Identifies and tracks key developments in target scientific fields, therapeutic programs and companies, and updates in the understanding of the epidemiology of target disease and conveys latest trends and insights to stakeholders
  • Develops and aligns with the Management Team a pipeline commercialization process to provide critical, holistic market-driven input into R&D and product development with future reimbursement, access, and payer strategies in mind

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role;
  • PhD and a background in genetics, target discovery and research – in addition to an affinity for the commercial landscape of biopharma.
  • Experience managing projects from inception to completion, including managing to a forecast achievement timeline.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills both written and verbal, with proven ability to influence, work, and communicate effectively with peers.
