(Senior) Scientist Oligonucleotide Delivery

Department
Science & Innovation

ProQR Therapeutics is a biotechnology company listed on NASDAQ with offices in Leiden, the Netherlands and Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. ProQR is focused on the development of life changing RNA therapies to meet the unmet need of individuals and families with common and rare diseases. A team of 150+ enthusiastic ProQRians from all walks of life and more than 30 different nationalities is up to this challenge. We have the passion and commitment to make a difference in the lives of the communities we serve. Our proprietary Axiomer® RNA editing technology platform enables the editing of specific single nucleotides in RNA using the cells own editing machinery. Axiomer® RNA editing technology harnesses ADAR (Adenosine Deaminase Acting on RNA), which is machinery present in all human cells to repair G-to-A mutations, modulate protein, and enable protective mutation functions. Axiomer could potentially yield a new class of innovative medicines and treat currently untreatable diseases.

Our Axiomer Unit is currently looking for a (Senior) Scientist Oligonucleotide Delivery (Full-time) to join our team.
Growing interest in the application and development of our platforms based on nucleic acid-based modulation of RNA as approaches to treat diseases allows us to expand our team involved. Our proprietary and versatile Axiomer® and TridentTM platforms harness the power of recruiting endogenously expressed enzymes to make precise adenine-to-inosine (A-to-I) or uridine-to-pseudouridine mutations in RNA through the use of specifically designed synthetic guide RNAs. These platforms add exciting new approaches with enormous potential as a research tool and therapeutic use in a wide range of disease areas.

As a member of our EON Design and In Silico team, you will assist in directing efforts to enhance the delivery of our molecules in all aspects, ranging from awareness of the state of the art and generating new concepts, to the hands-on synthesis of required test items, among which oligonucleotide-ligand conjugates. As such, you will work closely with our biology-driven teams and in-house CMC department.

Location: Leiden, NL (on-site)

We expect our (Sr.) Scientist to have:

  • A PhD degree in organic chemistry or a related field, demonstrating experience in the design and execution of organic chemical synthesis projects. Post-doctoral working experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry or in a relevant academic research field, is a plus
  • Working experience with, and understanding of the concept of targeted delivery/uptake of therapeutic molecules
  • Working experience or strong affinity with oligonucleotide chemistry, industrial/academic collaborations, therapeutics, and/or molecular biology is a plus

We expect this function to consist of both hands-on laboratory work (~20-50%) and project management (~50-80%).

Skills and competencies that are required for making the difference:

  • Pro-active and pragmatic self-starter, with a result-oriented mindset
  • On top of scientific developments in the field
  • Detail-oriented, while maintaining a strategic overview
