(Senior) Scientist Organic Chemistry
ProQR Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotech company listed on NASDAQ with offices in Leiden, the Netherlands and Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. ProQR is focused on the development of game changing RNA therapies for genetic rare diseases. Our mission is to help patients by creating new medicines. A team of 140 enthusiastic ProQRians from all walks of life and more than 30 different nationalities is up to this challenge. We have the passion and commitment to make a difference in the lives of the patients we serve.
Our Innovation department is currently looking for a (Senior) Scientist Organic Chemistry (Full-time) to join our team.
Location: Leiden, NL
Growing interest in the application and development of our platforms based on nucleic acid-based modulation of RNA as approaches to treat genetic diseases allows us to expand our team involved. Our proprietary and versatile AxiomerTM and TridentTM platforms harness the power of recruiting endogenously expressed enzymes to make precise adenosine-to-inosine (A I) or uridine-to-pseudouridine (U Ѱ) mutations in RNA, through the use of specifically designed synthetic guide RNAs. These platforms are exciting new approaches with an enormous potential as research tool and therapeutic use in a wide range of disease areas.
As member of our Oligonucleotide Expert Center, you will assist in the development of our RNA modulatory platforms by designing and hands-on synthesizing new building blocks and oligonucleotide-ligand conjugates in our laboratories. You will work closely with our molecular biology-driven teams and in-house CMC department.
We expect our (Senior) Scientist to have:
- A PhD degree in synthetic organic chemistry; or a Master’s degree/Bachelor/Bachelor of Applied Science (HBO) level degree with 3-5 years of experience in design and execution of organic chemical synthesis projects, preferably in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
- Experience with oligonucleotide chemistry is a plus.
Skills and competencies that are required for making the difference:
- Analytical and accurate
- Creative thinker
- Flexible and resistant to change
- Hands-on mentality
- Excellent laboratory and communication skills
- Pro-active and pragmatic self-starter, with a result-oriented mindset
- A nice person :-)
