ProQR Therapeutics is a NASDAQ-listed biotechnology company headquartered in Leiden, the Netherlands with an office in and Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
At ProQR, we are on a mission to edit RNA, treat disease and change lives. A team of 180+ enthusiastic ProQRians from all walks of life and more than 30 different nationalities is committed to pioneering transformative RNA therapies to make a difference in the lives of the communities we serve.
Our proprietary Axiomer™ RNA editing technology platform enables the editing of specific single nucleotides in RNA using the cells own editing machinery. Axiomer RNA editing technology harnesses ADAR (Adenosine Deaminase Acting on RNA), a protein which is present in all human cells, to repair G-to-A mutations, modulate protein, and enable protective mutation functions. Axiomer could potentially yield a new class of innovative medicines and treat currently untreatable diseases. By harnessing the power of RNA editing, we aim to create a world where genetics inform your health - but never limit it.
To strengthen our Axiomer Unit, we are looking for a Scientist Bioanalysis (full-time) to support our translational development portfolio
Location: Leiden, NL (on-site)
The role:
As Scientist Bioanalysis, you will be responsible for developing and executing the bioanalytical strategy for measuring oligonucleotide concentrations and relevant biomarkers in preclinical and clinical samples. Your work will generate critical pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD), and biomarker data that support dose selection, target engagement, safety assessments, and the advancement of ProQR's RNA editing therapies into and during clinical development.
You will oversee bioanalytical activities performed both internally and externally, ensuring high-quality data are delivered on time and in compliance with applicable regulatory standards. A key aspect of the role is managing Contract Research Organizations (CROs), coordinating assay development, validation, and sample analysis while maintaining oversight of quality, timelines, and budgets.
Key responsibilities:
Contribute to the bioanalytical strategy for ProQR's Axiomer® pipeline.
Select and implement bioanalytical and biomarker technologies, leveraging both internal capabilities and external platforms (e.g., ligand-binding assays, LC-MS/MS-based platforms, and other methodologies).
Lead outsourced bioanalytical activities by selecting, managing, and partnering with vendors for method development, assay validation, and sample analysis.
Coordinate bioanalysis analysis of both preclinical and clinical study samples, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality data to development programs.
Critically evaluate assay performance and interpret bioanalytical, biomarker, and PK/PD datasets to support translational development and decision-making.
Required qualifications:
Hands-on experience with bioanalytical and/or biomarker assay platforms development, and validation of method such as hybridization based HPLC and ligand-binding assays, ELISA, PCR, and LC-MS/MS or related technologies. Experience supporting bioanalysis and/or biomarker analysis of clinical samples, with a good understanding of the quality and regulatory requirements (GLP and GCP) associated with (non-)clinical studies.
Advanced degree (PhD) in Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical sciences, Bioanalytics, or a related field.
At least 2 years of relevant bioanalytical and/or biomarker experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO.
Demonstrated experience managing external parties like vendors and CROs.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Experience with RNA therapeutics is preferred.
Experience with (organ specific) extracellular vesicles from plasma and/or Immunogenicity / anti-drug antibody assays would be considered a positive.
ProQR as an employer:
As an employer, we value a diverse workforce in which people are encouraged to develop themselves both personally and professionally. We believe that when people are happy, energized and supported by an environment in which they can thrive, they can achieve extraordinary things.
We are committed to ensuring that no employee, candidate, or job applicant receives less favorable treatment on the grounds of race, age, disability, pregnancy, religion, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership status. At ProQR we want to create an inclusive culture where everyone can be valued for who they are and in which individual differences and contributions in all forms are recognized and valued.
We offer an exciting and innovative working environment in a very committed organization, with the following benefits:
8% holiday allowance
30 vacation days
An annual performance bonus
Stock options
A premium-free pension plan
A commuting allowance
A subsidized staff restaurant
Unlimited (un)healthy snacks and drinks
